How the Pomodoro timer works

A retro terminal timer with four modes: Pomodoro focus cycles, AI usage-window countdowns, meeting timers with a cost ticker, and an AFK stopwatch.

  1. Pick a mode: focus, AI session, meeting or AFK.
  2. Start the timer; it shows in the tab title and a mini widget.
  3. Get a sound or notification when a block ends or time runs low.

Questions people ask

What is the Pomodoro technique?

A way of working in fixed focus blocks with short breaks between them and a longer break after several blocks. This timer defaults to 25 minutes of work, 5-minute breaks and a 15-minute break after every fourth block — all adjustable.

How do I track my Claude or Gemini five-hour usage window?

Start the Claude or Gemini preset when you send the first message of a window. It counts down five hours, warns you at 15 minutes left, and shows how many focus blocks still fit. You track it yourself; it reads no usage data from either service.

Does the timer keep running if I close the tab?

Time is worked out from timestamps, so when you reopen the page it shows the right time and a block that finished meanwhile is still logged. Sounds and notifications only fire while the page is open.

Can I keep a Pomodoro timer on top of other windows?

In desktop Chrome and Edge, the mini timer can open a small always-on-top picture-in-picture window. In other browsers it floats inside the page, and the tab title and icon show the running timer.

Can I install this Pomodoro timer as an app?

Yes. Chromium browsers show an Install button; on an iPhone, use Add to Home Screen. It then opens in its own window like any app.

How do I calculate what a meeting costs?

Meeting mode multiplies attendees by an hourly rate and shows the cost climbing as the meeting runs, with an overtime alert and a card to share afterwards.
